We really enjoyed testing the heat-resistant underlay from FAIRMO. The product provides a certain degree of fire protection for various activities such as barbecuing, soldering, welding or using a fire bowl. The mat measures approx. 1 x 1 metre and can easily be cut to the right size. The product is tested and certified according to the German standard DIN 4102-1.
We are talking about very good workmanship with the materials used.

We have looked at and tested the product in detail in a practical test. In the following, we take a closer look at the features and impressions. The product is subjected to our test procedure from the packaging, materials and quality to the range of functions and handling.

The FAIRMO fireproof under lay arrived for our test in a typical shipping box, so it was easy to open by removing the adhesive strip and was delivered undamaged. The fireproof underlay was wrapped in a sturdy plastic bag with a zip, so that the packaging protects the product from dirt. In this case, the product was fully protected and the underlay was therefore in perfect condition.
The first impression is very good, as neither the product nor the packaging used was damaged.
After unpacking
Package contents and instructions
Most people’s first impression after unpacking is immediately memorable. Are the contents of the pack complete and does the manufacturer make it as easy as possible for me to use the product straight away?

After unpacking, the fireproof base and an insert with the QR code for rating the product on Amazon were on the table. Detailed operating instructions, a description of the product, warnings and cleaning instructions were printed on the packaging in German. The sturdy plastic cover with zip can be used again to protect and store the fireproof base when it is not needed. The contact information is printed on the plastic sleeve, but the telephone number could not be found on either the plastic bag or the insert. All in all, this is a very good way to send a product.

The fire-resistant underlay is made of flame-retardant carbon felt and can withstand temperatures of up to 980 degrees. The product measures 1 x 1 metre and is 0.5 cm thick. It can be cut to the right size if required. The mat has been tested and complies with the German DIN 4102-1 standard, i.e. the blanket does not char or shrink. The product can withstand direct exposure to flames. Unfortunately, we cannot find any information on sustainability , but the materials used appear to be of very high quality, which is why we assume that they will last a long time.

We really enjoyed working with the FAIRMO fireproof underlay. It was very easy for a layman to lay out the carbon felt and cut it to size according to our wishes. You don’t need much guidance to use the blanket as intended. In our test, we used both a piece of glowing coal and a small Bunsen burner. After this stress test for the blanket, hardly any damage was recognisable, only the appearance suffered from this test, but this is quite normal. We were also unable to detect any abnormal odours during this test.
Our conclusion from the practical test: easy handling and a very successful result. Thanks to the reusable plastic packaging with zipper, it is also sustainable and saves resources.

On the Amazon platform, consumers have given the product an average rating of 4.9 stars. One criticism is that the underlay stinks when it comes into contact with fire. Many customers like the fact that the mat is well made. In our practical test, we were able to confirm that the product is very well made. We were unable to confirm the odour criticised by Amazon customers on contact with fire.
Prices of up to €49.99 are charged on the Internet for equivalent products. Very inexpensive products are available from as little as €14.90. With a price of €34.90, the FAIRMO fireproof underlay is currently in the mid-price segment. The price ratio is very good for the quality and scope of services you get.
