In our test, the grass seed from Halmland made a very good impression.
The seed was specially designed for play and sports turf and is available in packs with a filling weight of 1 kg, 2.5 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg. According to the manufacturer, the turf seed in a 2.5 kg pack is sufficient for an area of 75 m² – 100 m². The seed mixture consists of 59% German ryegrass (Belida), 18% tall fescue, 15% German ryegrass (Naki), 5% German ryegrass (Temprano) and 3% Kentucky bluegrass. Both the back of the paper packaging and the accompanying brochure contain sowing and care instructions as well as lawn tips. In our test, the seeds were sown according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The seeds germinated after just 7 days. After a total of 3-4 weeks, the seedlings grew into dense, lush green grass. All in all, we are very satisfied with the lawn seeds.

General information
We have looked at and tested the product in detail in a practical test. In the following, we take a closer look at the features and impressions. The product is subjected to our test procedure from the packaging, materials and quality to the range of functions and handling.
To give you a quick overview, we work with a points system. The maximum possible number of points per area is 100 points. The final overall score is calculated from the average of all tested features, taking into account the respective weightings. The first impression
The packaging and labelling

The lawn seeds are packed in paper packaging and were delivered in an undamaged cardboard box. This cardboard box is thick, extremely sturdy and has been customised to the exact dimensions of the product packaging. This has the advantage that the product does not wobble around inside the packaging and is ideally protected from external influences.
There is also a Repasack label on the seed product packaging, which means that the packaging can be disposed of at a designated collection point.
There is also a list of the seed composition on the back of the product packaging. However, it would be desirable if the individual seeds were listed in descending percentage order.
The back of the product packaging also contains product information, sowing and care instructions and plenty of tips for a well-kept lawn. An accompanying brochure contains further information on sowing and lawn care.
After unpacking

The lawn seeds are supplied in green packaging together with a brochure (see pictures).
Instructions on sowing, reseeding and care can be found on the back of the product packaging as well as on the brochure. A QR code on the brochure allows the consumer to call up a detailed digital version of the instructions. The instructions are written in very clear German. However, it would be desirable if the instructions were available in several different languages.
We had to deduct 40 points from the “Contact information” category, as the contact information is not shown directly on the product packaging, but is only displayed on the mobile phone screen via a QR code. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that only the QR code on the brochure works. The code on the product packaging, on the other hand, does not work.

The following section takes a closer look at the lawn seeds. It should be noted that the seed mixture consists of the following 5 different varieties: 59 % German ryegrass (Belida), 18 % runner red fescue, 15 % German ryegrass (Naki), 5 % German ryegrass (Temprano) and 3 % meadow grass. After opening the packaging, you notice that the seed has a pleasant odour. A closer look at the grass seeds reveals that they have been dried and therefore have a golden colour.

Does the manufacturer keep its advertising promises?
ℹ️ Our practical test is the most relevant and therefore the most important. Here, the product has to undergo a wide range of criteria and tests. We check the functions and product promises of the test article.

In our practical test, we sowed the seed mixture. To do this, we followed the recommended instructions in the manual. Firstly, we prepared the ground for reseeding (see 1st picture). We cleared the soil of weeds and loosened it with a rake. We then scattered the seeds on the ground and carefully worked them into the loose soil with a rake so that the lawn seeds were lightly covered with soil. Finally, the area was watered regularly over a period of days. For our test, we decided not to fertilise the test area so that the growth of the seeds would not be influenced by additives. This allowed us to make a more precise assessment of the seeds.
It was particularly noticeable that the seeds started to germinate very quickly. After just 7 days, young seedlings could be clearly recognised (see 2nd picture).
Within 3-4 weeks, the grass had grown extremely dense and lush green (see 4th picture). At this point, the grass was already so high that it could be cut for the first time.
A particularly positive aspect was that the turf was hard-wearing, as it quickly re-established itself after being trodden on.

ℹ️ Finally, we look at how the product compares to the competition. Can it keep up with the competition in terms of price and quality? Would we generally recommend buying it? We also analyse consumer reviews and check whether the critical and positive reviews are actually justified.

On the Amazon platform, consumers have given the product an average rating of 4.3 stars. The fact that the lawn seeds do not germinate is often criticised. Other customers like the fact that the lawn grows very densely and quickly. In our practical test, we were able to confirm that the seed germinates quickly and has a dense turf. However, we cannot confirm that the lawn seeds do not germinate, as the grass grew excellently in our practical test.
Prices of up to €39.90/kg are charged on the internet for equivalent products. Very inexpensive products are available from as little as €9.15/kg. With a price of €16.99/kg, Halmland lawn seeds are currently in the lower price segment. The price ratio is very good for the quality and scope of services that you receive.
